The HWIC-4T is a 4-port multiprotocol high-speed WAN interface card (HWIC). Protocols supported are Async (SLIP), Async (PPP), HDLC, Bisync, and transparent.

The Cisco 4-Port Clear Channel T1/E1 High-Speed WAN Interface Card provides n x T1/E1 connectivity in a compact form factor and reduces deployment and management costs for the Cisco 2800, 3800, 2900 and 3900 Series Integrated Services Routers.

The 8-port asynchronous HWIC (HWIC-8A) provides 8 asynchronous RS-232 interfaces in DTE format, at data rates of up to 230.4 kbps.

Serial and asynchronous high-speed WAN interface cards (HWICs) provide highly flexible connections for Cisco 1800, 1900, 2800, 2900, 3800 and 3900 Series Integrated Services Routers. These HWICs help customers to enable applications such as WAN aggregation, legacy protocol transport, console server, and dial access server. Enterprise branch office and small-to-medium business customers can run concurrent services of Layer 3 routing, security, Layer 2 switching and now IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN functionality in a single platform. The 4-port Cisco EtherSwitch HWIC has four 10/100 switched Ethernet ports, with options for inline power support on all four ports. The 9-port Cisco EtherSwitch HWIC has nine 10/100 switched Ethernet ports, with options for inline power support on 8 of the 9 ports. The ninth port does not support inline power but can be used as a regular switch port for trunking and other normal data applications. Features such as port autosensing, quality of service (QoS), VLAN support from 802.1P and 802.1Q standards, and 802.1D spanning tree protocols are standard on the Cisco EtherSwitch HWIC.
